Audience Feedback

In lesson I was asked to create 15 questions about my products so I could get audience feedback from it and find out how engaging they thought it was.
The Questions were:

1. What attracts you most to the front cover of the magazine?
Main Image        Cover lines          Colour Scheme          Other            ____________

This shows that the main thing that attracts people to my magazine is the main image with 8 people saying it and
2 people saying the cover lines that attracted them.

2. Does the colour scheme fit the genre of Indie Rock?
Yes            No

This shows that people thought my colour scheme fit the genre of Indie/Rock which shows that the colours
will not have to be changed.

3. Is the colour scheme consistent throughout?
The people I asked all answered yes which shows that the pages I have created have kept to the same colour
scheme. It also shows me that since the colours were said to have fit the genre of Indie/Rock that the magazine pages all look like they fit in the genre.

4. Does the main image on the front cover fit the genre of Indie/Rock? Why?
The majority of people I asked all answered yes with some saying the reason why being that:
She looks like a rock chick
The main figure shows aarrogance and independence, the old garage door gives the cover a rustic feel and the superman shirt depicts fantasy
The mise-en-scene of the photo fits in with the genre as well as her pose and style of clothing
The model looks serious
She is wearing Indie/Rock looking clothes.

This shows that people thought the main image fit the genre of Indie/Rock and one of the main reasons was because of the clothing she is wearing.

5. Would you be willing to buy the magazine if you seen it for sale? Why?
Most people I asked answered with a yes with some saying the reason being that:
The price is reasonable and looks professional
It looks really interesting
It looks interesting with a wide section of topics from Indie to mainstream
It is appealing
I seems quite well made

This shows that if I published my magazine most people would buy it as it is appealing to them which is what I wanted to accomplish from the beginning.

6. Do the images on the Double Page Spread fit with the genre of Indie/Rock?
Yes           No

This shows that the images I took fit with the genre of Indie/Rock which is the genre I was hoping it to fit with.

7. Does the font of the writing fit the genre of Indie/Rock? Why?
Yes          No
Most answered yes and some of the reasons they said this was:
It is bold and appealing
The size of the font is the same as other Indie/Rock magazines
The colours used make it fit the genre
It is bold, colourful and straight to the point
It stands out
Bold and capital letters are used

This shows that the font which is used the most in any magazine fits with the genre I was hoping for (Indie/Rock)
8.  Is the price of the magazine noticeable enough?
Yes No
This shows that more people think the price is noticeable which is incredibly important when trying to get people to buy it because if they can`t see the price then they might not know if they can afford it or not and put it down instead.

9. Do you think the price of the magazine is acceptable?
Yes No

This shows that everyone I asked thought the price of the magazine was acceptable which increases the chances of it being bought

10. Are you happy with the layout of the magazine?
Everyone asked said yes and one person wrote because it fits in with the genre of the magazine and is also easy
to understand and follow.

Most people answered yes saying:
The layout is easy and uncomplicated
The images and writing have been set out good.
Would not look out of place on the shelf

All the images fit the genre and it follows the codes and conventions

This shows that overall people thought my production looked professional most of them metioning the images being one of the main reasons.

12. Do you think it could compete with existing music magazines and why?
Most people again answered with a yes
Some said the reason would be because:

It looks similar to other magazines
It seems to have lots of stories within the magazine
The layout and articles are sure to attract an audience
As its new and hits the current music obsession

This shows that people think my magazine could compete with existing magazines, with one of the main reasons being the layout of the magazine.

13. Does the magazine offer a good variety of content?
Most people asked again answered with a yes
Some people saying the reason being that:
The regular content is varied as well as teh features
It has a lot of variety

This shows that most people think my magazine has a good variety which means I wont have to add anymore to make up the numbers.

14. Do you feel the layout of the product is professional? If so why?
Most people I asked again answered with a yes
Saying that it was clear to read and it`s eye catching

Double Page Spread Production

Before creating my music magazine double page spread I was asked to draw a rough sketch of what I want it to look like so when I am producing it I know where I want everything to be.

I was asked to create a double page spread for my music magazine in quark.
Because the image did not fit with the article and looked out of place I then made the image bigger and made it bleed across the page so it looked connected. I also re sized the article quote and made it bigger so it stood out more.

I deleted some pictures and kept only one but making it bigger so the article had a more professional layout.

I then moved certain sentences around to make it look more like a professional magazine

After getting my worked look at by the teachers I was told to change some things such as the images. They were taken out and one bigger one put back in as they didn`t work the way I had them previously.

The images I had taken were then added onto the pages and I had to make sure none of the writing from the
article didn`t run over the image.

I then created the aticle and imported it onto the page.

At first I started with a blank page with the guides in to help.

Photographs For Double Page Spread

I was asked to conduct an interview with either a band or artist for my Double Page Spread and also have it fit the genre of my music magazine which is Indie/Rock.

I chose the first four photo`s to use for my Contents Page.

Here are some of the photo`s I took but eventually didn`t use.

Contents Page Production

I had to create a contents page for a music magazine by using Quark express to create it. I was asked to stick to the codes and conventions of a music magazine.  But before I could create anything on Quark I was asked to draw a rough sketch of the contents page I wanted to make.

I was asked to create a contents page for my music magazine in Quark.

For the page numbers I created another graphic feature in the shape of a red circle with the number in the middle so it stands out.

Having added the front cover image I then added writing around it to show the reader what pages everything is on.

After getting the teacher to look at my contents page,it was decided that I get rid of the editors letter completely and have the magazine cover in the middle with it annotated about the cover lines.

I imported three images onto the page and titled some of them to make it seem more Indie/Rock. I also Added white boarders around the images to make them stand out.

I then imported a picture I had taken and imported it onto the page

I then wrote the editors letter in word and imported it onto the page along with a photo of the front cover.

I imported the writing from word and added extra words bigger and bolder to stand out.

I added the boxes that will be graphic features.

At first I started with just a blank page.
