Results and Conclusions

I was told in lesson to produce a questionnaire in which I would use the results to help create my own music magazine. I got them back with these results

1. How old are you?
___
For this question I got back ages from 15 to 25 , the only 2 numbers which was pretty high was 16 and 17 and this will allow me to focus my magazine more on the younger generation but still allowing the slightly more older people to want to read it as well.

2. What is your favourite Band
_____________________________________________

This pie chart has helped me with my music magazine as it has allowed me to get an idea on what bands to include in the magazine(providing they fit the genre which some do) It will also help me know who to include in my magazine. For example 4 people said their favourite band was The Killers and another 4 people said their favourite band was Coldplay. By knowing this I will include them on the front cover of my magazine as they have the most people say them.

3. Who is your favourite Artist
_____________________________________________
This pie chart has helped me with my music magazine as it has allowed me to get an idea on what artists to include in the magazine(providing they fit the genre which some do)  It will also help me know who to include in my magazine. For example Florence and the Machine was mentioned as someone's favourite so I will include them in my magazine as a article and it will be mentioned on the contents page as well.

4. How much are you willing to pay for a music magazine? (Tick the correct box)
Less than £1           £1-£2          £2-£3           £3-£4           More than £4

The results on this bar chart have helped me change my initial plan for the better as before having the results I had overpriced for what people want to pay. I now know that the price should be between £1-£2 as that was the one will the most votes.

5. How often to you buy music magazines? (Tick the correct box)
Weekly      Every fortnight              Monthly                Other__________

Because of these results I have now changed how often the magazine is published as it was monthly but now it will be weekly because that was the answer people voted for the most.

6. What colours do you associate with A Indie magazine?
______________________________________________________________
The colours listed were mainly subtle colours such as white, black, red and the main one being blue. This will help with the colour scheme as I will be using those colours in my magazine because if people had written them down they are more likely to pick up my magazine with those colours.

7. What would you like to see more of in a magazine e.g. more interviews
_____________________________________________________________
The majority of people said they would like to see more interviews, posters, more music reviews and information on upcoming gigs. So most of them will be included in my own magazine. For example I will be featuring lots of interviews in my magazine.

8. What words do you associate with the magazines NME and Kerrang?
_____________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________
Words listed such as bands, record companies, artists, guitars, modern, enjoyable, Indie , cheap and weekly.

9. What influences you to buy a music magazine?
____________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________
People answered with things such as front cover, the price and the cover lines. Front cover was voted the most so I will take extra care in making sure my front cover is presentable and likely to attract people to it.

10. What attracts you most to a front cover of a music magazine? (Tick the correct box)
Main Image            Colours            Brand Name          Tag Lines
Other  __________________

Because of these results I will focus on having a really good main image and it being eye catching to the reader as just over 10 people said the main image attracted them to my music magazine.

The questionnaire has helped overall as I now know in which direction to take my magazine. For example the bands and artists to use in my magazine have been selected  and the price of it has been changed due to what people said.

Target Audience Research

In the lesson I was asked to produce a questionnaire and hand it out to 20 people that fit the age group of 15-25 as they will be the ones that will read my magazine. Once I had been given them back answered from them 20 people I was able to make some decisions on what will be in my magazine and other things such as  the design, content, price and frequency of publication.

The questions asked were:

1. How old are you?
___
I asked this question so I would get an idea of what age group liked what music things

2. What is your favourite Band
_____________________________________________
This question was asked so it could help me choose some bands that I could use in my music magazine and also so I could find out what music tastes people had.

3. Who is your favourite Artist
_____________________________________________
Again I asked this question so I could find out which artists people liked and maybe use them in my own magazine providing that they fit in the genre of my magazine.

4. How much are you willing to pay for a music magazine? (Tick the correct box)
Less than £1           £1-£2          £2-£3           £3-£4           More than £4
This question was asked so I could find out around about how much I should sell my magazine for.

5. How often to you buy music magazines? (Tick the correct box)
Weekly           Every fortnight              Monthly                Other__________
The results I will get from this is how often I should release my magazine. How often people now do it and use that for my own.

6. What colours do you associate with A Indie magazine?
______________________________________________________________
I asked this question because when I get the results back I will be able to look at what people have written and use the colours they think are associated with an Indie/Rock magazine and use them.

7. What would you like to see more of in a magazine e.g. more interviews
_____________________________________________________________
The results I get from this question will influence my decision on what to put more off in my own magazine.

8. What words do you associate with the magazines NME and Kerrang?
_____________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________
I have chosen to ask this question so I can get an idea of what people think of when the magazines NME and Kerrang are mentioned and use the results for my Indie/Rock magazine.

I have asked this question

9. What influences you to buy a music magazine?
____________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________
I have asked this question so I will have more of an idea on how I can try and sell my magazine even more.

10. What attracts you most to a front cover of a music magazine? (Tick the correct box)
Main Image            Colours            Brand Name          Tag Lines
Other  __________________
This question when answered will give me an insight on what I can put on my front cover to attract more people to but it.

Initial Plans

In lesson I was told to come up with an initial plan for my music magazine before I had produced any questionnaire. This was so I could have an idea of what my magazine will consist of. I had to make up 10 regular content, the feature articles that would feature, the type of music magazine I am going to produce, the target Audience and the Price.

We were told to amend our initial ideas from the questionnaire answers and change them for the better from the knowledge gained from them.

Evaluation

I had to create an evaluation of the school magazine I had created. I was asked to write about my strengths and weaknesses while creating the school magazine, the codes and conventions of a magazine that I used and the media technologies I used in the production and how I found using them.

Final School Magazine Contents Page

I was asked to create a contents page for a new school magazine. I had looked at the plan I had drawn which made the whole process a lot quicker as I already knew what  my page would look like.

Quark Express Production Process

I had to create a contents page for a school magazine using quark. I looked at the rough sketch I had drawn to use as a base of what it was going to look like. It didn`t take as much time as I thought although it took a while to get used to.

Here I have added writing at the top using a darker blue so it fits the colour code but still stands out.
I have also added numbers to the pictures to show the reader were they can find that article in the magazine again I used a light blue sticking to the colour code.

Pictures have been added to the page. One being bigger than the rest as that is the photo to do with the main image so it had to stand out. I had to create a image box and import an image into it and fitting the image to the box size. At first the images were to big to fit so I had to decrease to size of them in photoshop and import them again with the new size.

I added a header at the top and filled it with a light blue colour so it fits with the colours used on my front cover.

I have created a features list on my contents page by adding a text box the size of one column and then importing a word document with the list already written on it.

A blank page at the start of the process of my contents page.

Photoshop Production Process

I had to create a front cover for a school magazine using photoshop. I used the plan I had made in an earlier lesson to base my work on which helped quicken the process.

I have created Graphic features that fit with the colour of the masthead. I have used a gradient tool to get different dynamics of colouring to allow it to have a more professional look.

Created writing to go with the genre of the magazine and also to fit the masthead. The writing below the main image has the effect of Stroke on it.

I have placed a new picture on my front cover, in another layer and decreased the size as it is not my main image.

I have added large test over the top of my main image. The lettering has the effects Inner Glow,Bevel and Emboss,Colour Overlay,Gradient Overlay and Stroke.

I then added my main image making sure that it wasnt blurry and that it fit the page with the person I had photographed as near the centre I could get whilst trying to keep the sign " Film Club" in it as well.Placing this image on a new layer so if I wasnted to I could go back to this image without disrupting the rest of my work.

I started with a blank A4 page on photoshop.

Pre Lim Task 5-Photographs For Designs

In lesson I had to take pictures for the school magazine I would create later on. Here are the photos I took for my pre lim task . Some I didnt use but took as a backup incase the one I intended to use didnt work/go with the rest of my work.
Will be used as my main image on my front cover.
I chose to use the one above and not the one below because the picture came out clearer and looked more professional, whereas the one below came out slightly blurry.
Both photos were taken in a medium close up.

The picture above of the guitars in a close up will be used for my content page.

Differnt angles to show variation and also so I have options to choose from. The one above in an over the shoulder shot will be used on my content page.
This one in a side portrait in a medium close up will not be used.

Taken in a mid shot.

The one above taken in a mid shot will be used on my front page as her face can be seen.

The one above taken in a long shot will be used on my contents page.

The one above taken in a mid shot will not be used my magazine.

The one above taken in a low angle mid shot will be used on my contents page.
